Review:Sticky Notes Touch
Sticky Notes Touch is another of Offscreen Technology’s line of touchable S60 5th Edition apps, this time taking aim at that king of stationary cupboard finds – the sticky note. Where would we be without the sticky note? When it comes to quickly scribbled reminders and notes, it has proven to be a brilliantly simple bit of technology. Would a virtual sticky pad be just as useful? Find out how we got on with our Sticky Notes Touch Review.
Sticky Notes Touch is presented as a ‘cork-board’ the fills the screen, with a small pad of notes stuck in the bottom corner. If you tap the pad and drag your finger you can pull off a ‘note’ and position it anywhere on the board. As soon as you release the note the app will zoom in to it and you can start writing.
The only kind of input allowed in Sticky Notes Touch is scribbling on the touchscreen using a finger or stylus. This is good in terms of consistency of the sticky notes metaphor, but maybe not so great in terms of having something readable at the end of it. We would recommend some kind of stylus if you want to write anything more than a few words.
When you are done the app will drop you back to the cork-board view and you can see a miniature version of your note where you stuck it. The app even tilts it slightly at a random angle to make it look more realistic, which is a nice touch.
Like most of Offscreen’s touch apps, Sticky Notes Touch is a standalone – it doesn’t integrate with the rest of your phone and any data stored on it is confined purely to the confines of the app. To see your notes you will have to launch the app, which doesn’t take long but it would have been nice to include a home screen widget for fast access.
Another caveat is that you need to make sure you quit the app using the ‘X’ icon in the corner of the screen. If you don’t – if you just hit the Hang Up key to drop to the home screen – the app will quit without saving any of the notes you spent ages trying to write with your fingernail.
Sticky Notes Touch is another well presented app from Offscreen. It has limited functionality, but is pleasant to use and is good enough to serve as a quick jottings app if nothing else.
